Arimasu and Imasu Quiz: Existence and Location Practice

Use this quiz to practise saying what exists and where it is. The questions distinguish people and animals from ordinary objects, then connect those nouns to location words and particles. This is also a useful check before describing a room or asking where someone is.

Before you start

In the situations used here, います describes people and animals, while あります describes ordinary objects. The location of existence takes に. A phrase such as 机の上 combines the reference object and position with の, then takes に as a whole: 机の上に本があります.

An activity at a location uses a different pattern. 学校にいます says someone is at school; 学校で勉強します describes studying there. Read the predicate before filling the particle. After the quiz, try describing two things in your own room and a person in another place.
