Japanese Ta-Form Quiz: 10 Plain-Past Practice Questions
The ta-form gives the plain affirmative past. It also appears before expressions such as ことがある and 後で. This quiz asks for the form itself; longer patterns can be studied through the linked lessons after you finish.
Before you start
The sound changes mirror the te-form: て changes to た and で changes to だ. That gives 書いた from 書いて and 読んだ from 読んで. Keep the special 行った form in mind. A small っ is part of forms such as 待った; leaving it out changes the spelling and sound.
Plain past and polite past are different answers. If a prompt asks for the ta-form of 食べる, write 食べた rather than 食べました. Try the question before opening the answer review. If the ending is unfamiliar, revisit the group and compare the te and ta forms side by side.
