Japanese Adjectives Quiz: I and Na Forms, Past and Negatives

Japanese adjectives change differently according to their pattern. These ten questions combine noun modification, negative and past endings, and connections between two descriptions. Look at what follows the adjective as well as the adjective itself.

Before you start

A regular i-adjective changes final い to くない for its plain negative and かった for its plain past. Before another description, use くて. A na-adjective uses な directly before a noun and で when linking to another predicate. The sound at the end of a word is not a reliable group test: きれい follows the na-adjective pattern.

Keep the adjective ending separate from a polite sentence ending. For example, 寒かったです already expresses past time through 寒かった. After checking a mistake, read the full resulting sentence and compare its function with the examples in the linked lesson.
