To link descriptions, use くて for an i-adjective and で for a na-adjective or noun. The last predicate supplies the final tense and politeness. These forms can simply add information, and context can also suggest a reason or cause.
Formation and use
For i-adjectives, replace final い with くて: 安くておいしい, 広くて明るい. いい becomes よくて. Do not add て to the unchanged dictionary form.
Na-adjectives use で: 静かで便利です. Nouns also connect with で: 学生で、東京に住んでいます. This で links predicates; it is not the activity-place particle.
Comparisons and common errors
In 昨日の料理は安くておいしかったです, the final adjective carries the past. The connecting adjective normally remains 安くて rather than 安かったて.
For a contrast such as “expensive but delicious,” use a contrast connector: 高いですが、おいしいです. A くて connection alone does not explicitly express “but.”
