N5 foundation checks

N5 Grammar Practice: Particles, Forms and Sentences

Choose particles, form basic verbs and adjectives, and build Japanese sentences with examples and connected lessons.

How to approach the questions

For a particle question, identify the relationship before the blank. 図書館で勉強します describes an action at the library; 図書館に本があります describes something located there. Translating both particles as “at” hides the difference.

For a verb ending, find the dictionary form and verb group first. 待つ becomes 待って, while 書く becomes 書いて. For adjectives, decide whether the word is an i-adjective or a na-adjective: 寒くなかったです and 静かでした use different patterns.

Each foundation check contains four particle items, four form items and four sentence-building items. Sentence building uses all four provided parts. Some sentences allow more than one natural order; accepted alternatives are included in the checker. Explanations and the N5 study map help you practise the pattern again.
