Practise everyday Japanese words in sentences, distinguish actions and places, and check time expressions with worked examples.
Knowing an English meaning is a start. In a sentence, check who performs the action, which object it takes, and what happens next. 借りる and 貸す both involve a loan, but the direction is different: the borrower receives the item; the lender gives it temporarily.
Read time expressions as part of a sequence. あした is tomorrow, あさって is the day after tomorrow, and 来週 is next week. A clock time such as 一時 differs from a duration such as 一時間. Work out the actual sequence before choosing a word.
Each 40-question foundation check contains 12 vocabulary items: four about actions, four about places and situations, and four about time or frequency. Use the 300-word collection below to study first. These selected words and checks are a learning resource, not a complete official N5 vocabulary list.
