Ready for N4 after N5? Check the forms you can use

Connect basic N5 sentences to N4 ability, plans and conditions, with targeted reviews when needed.

Check what you can make without looking

Reading a textbook once does not guarantee that you can form the verbs yourself. Try making these sentences, then extend them. A weak form does not require postponing every new lesson: review that form and return to its new use.

本を読みます → 読めます / 読むことができます: reading becomes ability. 家に帰って、休みます → 帰ったら、休みます: a sequence becomes a condition. 今日は行きません → 行かないつもりです: a negative becomes an intention. 昨日買った本です describes a noun with a past action.

Review the form you need

For favours, review て forms: 読む→読んで, 書く→書いて, 行く→行って. For たら, review た forms: 読んだ→読んだら. For negative plans, review ない forms: 行かないつもりです.

Join two short sentences

雨が降ります。家で勉強します。 can become 雨が降ったら、家で勉強します for a condition, or 雨が降っているので、家で勉強します for a current reason. Decide the relationship first. In 私が買った本は面白かったです, find 本, then read 私が買った as one description before it.

If basic sentences are difficult, use the 14-day foundation course. To find weak points, try the 24-question diagnostic, or N5 checks for section practice and review. These results guide study; they do not certify an exam pass.

If most basic sentences are manageable, begin with the eight N5 checks in the N4 bridge course. Existing correct records for the same questions carry over. Due reviews still come first, and after seven sessions you can continue with the remaining questions across all 20 grammar themes and 10 readings.
