Unit 21 of 30

Form plain negatives without using a masu stem

Review the foundations if needed: Recognise verb groups · Match plain and polite verbs

What to notice

Godan verbs move to the a-row before ない, with final う changing to わ. Ichidan verbs remove る and add ない. Remember しない, 来ない (こない), and the negative ない for ある.

今日は肉を食べない。

I will not eat meat today.

Before checking the answer

Try retrieving the answer from memory. After a mistake, read the explanation and form the answer again. A same-day retry does not replace a later spaced review.

From recognising to using it

Three steps, five questions each. You can open any step. Questions answered elsewhere keep their history; opening an answer does not count as a correct response.
