Where to start learning Japanese
Choose the 14-session beginner course, a skills check or N5 practice according to what you can already do.
If kana and simple sentences are still new, begin with the beginner course. Read a short example, try the questions and return to the explanation when you cannot explain an answer.
If you already know the basics, use the skills check to choose a starting point. An N5 practice result can help you plan review, but these learning questions are not an official proficiency score.
Read hiragana words
Read each kana as part of a word. Keep a full-sized や separate from a small ゃ.
やまです。
It is a mountain.
