ので connects a reason to what follows. It often presents the reason as background to an explanation or request. The key beginner issue is the attachment: nouns and na-adjectives use な before ので in the plain affirmative.
Formation and use
| Predicate | から | ので |
|---|---|---|
| V | 行くから | 行くので |
| い | 寒いから | 寒いので |
| な | 静かだから | 静かなので |
| N | 学生だから | 学生なので |
Use 行くので, 行かないので, 寒いので, and 寒かったので. The plain form before ので can carry its own tense or negation.
For nouns and na-adjectives use 学生なので and 静かなので, not 学生だので or 静かだので. Compare 学生だから: the two reason connectors require different affirmative attachments.
Comparisons and common errors
Polite forms such as 雨ですので also occur, especially in courteous explanations. ので does not guarantee politeness by itself; wording, request type, and relationship still matter.
から and ので overlap in many explanations. Avoid a false absolute rule that から is always rude or ので always objective. Choose a natural reason-result relation and the right attachment first.
